WHAT BUSINESS ARE WE REALLY IN?
It is true but unsettling to even admit, properly so, the formulation of the question (which applies also to science and any other human endeavor, everywhere).
-There are things we think we are doing
-There are things which are REALLY being done
-We can't really fully capture the #2, so we never really know what we are doing.
Consequence: the world is bound to bring about unpleasant surprises.
