INNOVATION VS. QUALITY CONTROL—THE PSYCHOLOGICALLY OPPOSING DOMAINS



Since 1980s, statistical process control, TQM, Kaizen, 6-Sigma management have tamed the quality issue, so quality stopped being a business differentiator because everyone started to know how to get it. But innovation cannot be tamed the same way quality was. For it is the very opposite of taming and system. Not only different people, but the enormity of whole countries may be capable of only one or the other orientation.
